Canvas Grade Calculator

About Canvas Grade Calculator

Canvas Grade Calculator is a free tool that helps students understand exactly where they stand in a course. Enter your weighted categories and it instantly shows your current grade, projects what a given final score would do to your total, and tells you precisely what you need on the final to hit your target — no spreadsheets, no sign-in, no waiting for your instructor to post a number.

Why we built it

The grade question students need answered most — "what do I need on the final?" — is buried or missing in most gradebooks. Canvas shows you a current grade, but it doesn't reverse the weighted formula to tell you the score you have to earn, and it makes "what-if" experiments awkward to find. We built this calculator to answer those questions in a single screen, the moment you type, using the same weighted-average math Canvas itself uses.

Who it's for

It's for the student checking their grade the week before a final, deciding how hard to push. It's for anyone whose course mixes homework, quizzes, and exams at different weights, where a simple average gives the wrong answer. And it works well beyond Canvas — the weighted method is shared by Blackboard, Schoology, PowerSchool, and most other learning management systems, so the numbers line up with whatever gradebook your school uses.

How it works

You enter each weighted category — its score and how much it counts — plus your final exam's weight. The calculator averages within each category, multiplies by the weights, and adds the pieces together, exactly the way Canvas computes a course grade. From there you can type a hypothetical final score to see your projected grade, or set a target grade and read off the exact score you'd need to reach it. If a target isn't mathematically reachable, the tool tells you honestly instead of showing an impossible number.

Private by design

Everything runs entirely in your browser. The grades and weights you enter are saved only in your device's local storage so your course is still there next time — they are never uploaded, never tied to an account, and never visible to us. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to install.

Accuracy and honesty

We mirror the weighted-average method used by Canvas and most learning management systems, so the numbers you see should match your real gradebook. That said, the results are estimates based on what you enter — your school's official gradebook is always the authoritative source. Have a question, found a bug, or want a feature?
